Seasonal forecasting of lightning and wildfire in Alaska
I’m a PhD candidate in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. My dissertation is on seasonal forecasts of lightning for the Alaska wildland fire season.
Before graduate school, I worked as an energy efficiency engineer in California, auditing building energy performance, incentive program compliance, and automating analysis for utility programs.

Lightning Outlook (in development) will publish daily 1-, 3- and 10-day lightning outlooks for Alaska Predictive Service Areas through the fire season. GEFS forecasts are run through a gradient-boosted lightning parameterization and reported against the reforecast climatology, relative to what is normal for that point in the season.
SOM Analysis Tool generates figures of SOM hit-rate anomalies for any list of years, following the composite tools at NOAA PSL and based on my dissertation research. Enter the years of an event and it shows which circulation patterns were more or less common.
