Seasonal forecasting of lightning and wildfire in Alaska
I’m a PhD candidate in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, working on seasonal forecasts of lightning for the Alaska wildland fire season.
Before graduate school I worked as an energy efficiency engineer in California, and I still have a soft spot for instrumenting things. This site runs on a Raspberry Pi 4 on my desk. The SOM tool is a demo inspired by NOAA PSL’s plotting and analysis tools and based on my dissertation research that generates figures of SOM hit-rate anomalies given a list of user-defined years.
